Calling all Rockets! Calling all Rockets!

Hello, my Duckletts! It's Mod Waterdog, and I have an exciting announcement for those of you who have chosen to play a Rocket! Before anything else, please do not share this information with the rest of the game OOCly yet. There will be a game-wide announcement soon, but the mod team wanted you guys to have a little extra time to plot!

Yes, plot!

The birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing, and that can only mean spring! And spring means:

FOR THOSE NEW TO THE GAME:
Pokemon Prom (or PokeProm for short) is a long-running yearly tradition that started in Route 29. It is a swanky everyone-is-invited party hosted by the Elite Four at their secluded get-away vacation mansion full of music, food, dancing and fancy clothes. Maps and descriptions of everything you can find at the E4 Estate will be released with the upcoming announcement. You don't need to worry about that right now.

Because guess who's secretly hosting PokeProm this year.

WOAH WHAT?
Yeah, crazy, amirite? Here's what happened-- over the course of many months, a secret Team Rocket mission squad has been tunnelling towards the E4’s private manor underground. About two or three weeks ago, their plans finally paid off! After breaking through, they swiftly carved out a secret base (Rockets love secret bases) right beneath it, and, as soon as the opportunity arose... kidnapped the famous four. OUR CITY NOW!!

DO OUR CHARACTERS KNOW ABOUT THIS?
This was a top-secret mission executed by high-level Rocket admins, and as such, grunts were not informed that this high-stakes operation was happening. However, as of April 1st, they will all be woken bright and early by the loudspeaker (or, for those Rockets not in the base, a very loud ‘Gear notification), which commands them to attend a full-team meeting-- here, they will be debriefed on the situation, and their newest assignment… helping Team Rocket make the most of this exciting new opportunity!

… And by ‘make the most’, we mean ‘find a way to use it to take advantage of a bunch of unsuspecting trainers’. Because while they were in the process of ransacking the place for every precious rare object they could get their grubby gloved hands on, they got an idea. A wonderful, terrible idea.

That’s right. It’s time to host a bogus Pokemon Prom.

SO WHAT’S TEAM ROCKET DOING THROWING A FANCY PARTY AT THE ELITE FOUR’S HOUSE?
They’re hoping that if they can ambush everyone while they’re worn out from a night of fun and dancing, it’ll be a whole lot easier to take all these trainers out and steal all their super-rare companions! This party’s been a completely legitimate event for years, so who would suspect a thing before it was too late?

Of course… it is Team Rocket. Crafty as they are, they won’t quite meet the same standards as the much-classier people they’re impersonating. The pool isn't nearly as pristine, the hors d'oeuvres seem downright ordinary for something being served at the biggest event of the year, and the quarters are a little cramped. All the areas they couldn’t clean up or fake to look like normal will be blocked off from the general public to avoid drawing attention. Needless to say, there will be plenty for non-Rockets to pick up on. Player Rockets will be encouraged to act like everything is perfectly normal and discourage or distract anyone who asks too many questions or starts to stick their nose where it doesn't belong.

Once the official announcement goes up, we absolutely encourage everybody to plot together and cooperate with non-Rocket players who want their characters to start catching onto the fact that things are a little fishy here.

SO WHAT’S GOING TO GO DOWN AT THIS AMBUSH?
At around 10 PM on April 8th, just when things are starting to wind down, the Rockets are going to make their move.

A mysterious force field will spring up around the mansion grounds, preventing party-goers from leaving, and Team Rocket (both NPCs and Player Rockets) will unveil themselves in a most grandiose fashion. PREPARE FOR TROUBLE!

WHAT WILL OUR CHARACTERS BE EXPECTED TO DO DURING THIS EVENT?
Since Rocket characters will have been filled in on the whole scheme (or well, at least the Pokemon-stealing part of it-- there’s some other stuff that’s only Admin business, thank you very much) well in advance, they are expected to aid their team however they can. For the most part, this means keeping quiet-- the repercussions for tipping anyone off will be severe, and while it’ll be hard to keep track of who’s doing what in the inevitable chaos, they will be generally expected to join in the battle once the jig is up. Keep those no-good do-gooders out of the basement at all costs!

Other than that, the best thing they can do is mingle and act like everything’s perfectly normal!

MY CHARACTER’S BEEN HIDING THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH TEAM ROCKET THUS FAR-- WILL THE PARTICIPATING ROCKETS BE FORCED TO OUT THEMSELVES FOR THIS EVENT?
Not unless you want them to be! We don’t want to force any Rocket characters to have a big reveal that they don’t want, so it’s completely acceptable to say that they had their faces hidden or that they just plain avoided running into anyone who would recognize them in all the confusion. At the end of the event, they are free to shed their uniforms and pretend to have been innocent party-goers all along. Or, you know, if you WANT them to get caught, we can certainly make that happen, although there might be some nasty consequences… :)

BUT OUR NUMBERS ARE FEW AND THIS SEEMS PRETTY OUTRAGEOUS TO PULL OFF, EVEN IF ALL OF US WORK TOGETHER… WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN?
It pretty much goes without saying that Team Rocket is, unsurprisingly, in for a loss. After all, it is the Elite Four they’re holding captive, and even without the rest of the playerbase’s help, they’d probably find a way to get out and send Team Rocket blasting off again eventually.

There will be comment-count “win conditions” for the playerbase as a whole when it comes to freeing the E4 and finding out what else the Rocket Admins were up to (hint: it’s something so big that not even the grunts will be told about it!), which will result in rewards for the whole game, Rocket characters included, if met! And this event is definitely intended to be a first sip to cure the Rocket dry spell of the past year or so, and will ICly kick off future events where the chances of success aren’t so black and white. So even if it’s all destined to go down in flames, we hope you’ll all have fun plotting some good, old-fashioned bad guy schemes!

DID YOU SAY… REWARDS?
Yes ma'am, this plot comes with PRIZES for Rockets and non-Rockets alike!

Rockets who heavily participate in the battle will be given promotions, and in addition to the game-wide rewards, there will be a few other Rocket-specific goodies in it for all of you-- Team Rocket may have lost the battle, but that won’t change the fact that they plundered the Elite Four’s mansion for all its worth.

And additionally, the overall plan’s failure will mean Team Rocket’s higher-ups will be paying much closer attention to its members’ performances, which means plenty in the coming months for Rockets to do...
